The initials around the perimeter are VRSNSMV-SMQLIVB which is for the Latin phrase: 'Vade Retro Satana, Nunquam Suade Mihi Vana- Sunt Mala Quae Libas, Ipse Venena Bibas' which translates to 'Step back satan, do not suggest to my thy vanities- evil are the things thou profferest, drink thou thy own poison'.
